If you are currently looking for an internship opportunity, the Bob Feller Act of Valor Award Foundation is offering an opportunity to work with them remotely. We reached out to Amanda Brawley, she recently accepted an internship position with the foundation. We wanted to get insight into the process of getting the internship and what she will be doing for them.

How did you hear about the Bob Feller Foundation and internship?

I found out about the Bob Feller Foundation from the Sports as a Job twitter account. I saw Sports as a Job twitter post a tweet about an organization needing interns for their foundation. I’m working on my Masters and thought it would be a great opportunity as I am close to graduation and getting ready for my career within sports and non-profits.

What was the process to get the internship like?

The process was really simple. I went to their website and under Education they had a Student Internship Application where I could apply and tell them what my area of interest was. They have a lot of different areas that I could be a part of. After that, I got an email from Nick Patrissi who is on the Board for the Foundation about a virtual internship orientation. The orientation was about an hour long and there were a couple of other interns and the founder on the call. Nick went over what the foundation does and what areas they are looking for interns in. As interns we were invited to their weekly zoom meeting to meet everyone and see what each group was working on to help us when we had our one on one with Nick. After that, I hopped on a call with Nick to see where my strengths are and how he felt I could be best utilized at. That’s where we really got to see what we will be doing for the foundation.

What will you be doing for them?

I will be working with Nick and the event coordinating team. The Bob Feller Foundation puts on 8-10 events throughout the year that I will get to help with. Being remote, we will have an event coordinating team meeting once a week as well as a meeting with everyone to talk about what everyone is doing. At any point during the internship, I could work with a different team within the foundation to get a broader sense of other teams and how they function. I can help out with projects within the event coordinating team as much as I can over the internship.

Note: The internship does not have a timeline on how long it is going to be. They said as long as I wanted it to be.

What was the process of how you got to choose the area you wanted to work in?

I had a one on one meeting with Nick to see where I would be best fit. We talked about my experiences within my bachelors degree and outside of school and what were my top three interests would be within the foundation. Within the foundation there are a lot of different interests that the interns could get into. One big thing I like about the foundation is that we (as interns) can dabble in different interests that we might want to try; such as I’m starting in event management but I can at some point work with the social media team for a project.
